Here are the two most common reasons cited by our customers when they hire us to clean the air ducts in their homes or businesses.
I don't know if you've seen pictures taken inside dirty air ducts before, but some of them are pretty awful. The one at the left is an example of a particularly bad one. I almost didn't post this one, because it is SO bad. Most ducts are not this dirty even when it has been many years since they were cleaned. But, believe it or not, some really are this bad and a few are even worse. It is not too hard to understand why, for example, a homeowner, would want this air duct cleaned out, or any air duct accumulating even a fraction of what you see here. Who wants this kind of filth anywhere in their environment? Most of us are blissfully unaware what lurks in our air ducts so we never even think about it.
The next picture shows the same air duct after cleaning.
Looks quite a bit better.
2. "I (or some other family member/coworker) have a lot of trouble with allergies and I want to remove as many irritants as I can from the air in my home (office)"
It stands to reason that air blowing across accumulated dust, dead bugs and pet hair inside an air duct would pick up particles of this material and blow them out into the air we breathe in our homes and offices. For those of us who don't suffer with allergies this might not be such a big deal. But it is a big deal for many allergy-sufferers. At my air duct cleaning company we get calls nearly every day from people who do battle with allergies and they tell us they are on the lookout for anything that might help them. Once they know that irritating stuff is in their air ducts, they want it all gone and they cannot get rid of it themselves because they lack the tools, equipment and know-how to do it. They hire us us to come into their homes and offices and get it all out of their ductwork. Then it is absolutely impossible for any of those particles to be blown into the air they breathe, at least in the short term. In the longer term, the dust of course accumulates again and the job has to be repeated. We usually tell our customers they should have it done every three to five years. Some allergy-sufferers are more careful than that and have us out every year.
Here's to fewer irritating particles in the air we breathe!
